PowerPutt Hole Showcases are here, ready to turn your –10's into –15's and your –20's into record low scores! The next hole to be dissected is Dusty Trail #12, a par-3 that could be a sign of very good things to come for the rest of your round.
Barring any catastrophes, birdie here should be somewhat of a breeze. Any shot that makes its way past the ridge and onto the other (lower) side should leave a short, flat putt for birdie. While birdies are always appreciated – eagles are appreciated even more. Especially the ones that come via a hole-in-one!
This is a repetition shot that should be somewhat easy to mimic once you can control both the accuracy and the speed. As you can tell from the picture, there is a larger hole placed almost directly in the center of the pathway. This leads to pretty much an automatic ace - the trick is getting it there.
As is the case in many of these holes, to succeed you'll have to approach this like a bank shot in pool. Unlike pool, however, this hole can be played almost exactly the same each and every time.
Where you play your shot will depend slightly on your tee box, but you should try and bank your first shot left of the second metal bearing. Because this surface is flat and angled, your ball will be sent almost directly across towards the other part of the hole. With time along with a few successes and failures, this will be a shot you can repeat pretty easily. The speed, however, might be slightly tougher to master.
Too little speed and you might be looking at one of those catastrophes I alluded to earlier. The worst possible thing you can do is come up short and walk away with less than a birdie. Hit the ball too hard and it will bounce over the opening and your eagle opportunity is gone barring an unbelievably lucky wall-bounce.
The distance to the opening really isn't all that far, so keep this in mind when trying to find the ideal shot. With a few attempts, you should be able to at least hit this opening almost fifty percent of time. With more practice, I have faith that most of you will hit it even more!
This isn't necessarily a make-or-break hole and you're not walking away with a bogey or worse if you happen to make a mess of your first shot. These hole, however, are oh so important for reaching new milestones. The difference between a birdie and an eagle is only one stroke. Imagine what that one stroke could do to your score if you were able to pick it up almost every single round?
