PowerPutt Hole Showcase: Freaky Tiki 14

Finding the Shortcut Is The Easy Part On This Gut-Check Par-4!

Showcase Hole

PowerPutt Hole Showcases are here, ready to turn your –10's into –15's and your –20's into record low scores! The next hole to be dissected is Freaky Tiki #14, a par-4 that provides one of the tougher and most unique shots in the game and could be the difference between an ace or a water ball.

The hole starts with players positioned left of the pin, facing a horseshoe-shaped portion of the hole that goes "the long way" to the hole. Turn right, however, and you'll see an opening aimed directly at the cup. While you're close to the pin, there is one very obvious catch that prevents this from being an easy hole-in-one.

Showcase HoleThere are four revolving boards that circle the pin serving as quickly moving bridges. While the pin is more or less a short straight shot away; your accuracy, touch, and timing will all be tested if you wish to go for the elusive par-4 ace.

Accuracy: As mentioned, you'll just be hitting a straight shot. There's no banks, bends, or other tricks to this, just full speed ahead. Still, being accurate will be much tougher when you're under the gun like you are here.

Touch: Your tee shot must be hit hard enough to get across the bridge and to the other side before the bridge rotates pass the landing area. There's also no backstop behind the pin so anything that doesn't find the bottom of the cup or bounce over the hole will undoubtedly get wet.

Timing: The real key here. Your ball MUST make it over to the other side – past the bridge and on to the other side. The four columns move much faster than they originally appear and getting the timing down will require practice. At the very least, you'll have a shot for the hole-in-one

All this information is assuming that you'll be taking the dangerous path. There is always the chance to play safe, turn left, and take the bridge that doesn't move. Still, where's the fun in that? Unless you're playing in a monster game against your buddy and you're looking to avoid a potential blow up, this is an instance where you should go for the gusto.

My advice would be to really focus and getting your shot inside the cup. Even if you hit it too hard, your ball will still hop over the cup and avoid going in the water. This doesn't mean that you should crush this shot but add enough power to ensure it makes it.

While this might an unorthodox way to approach this hole it will usually work. The more comfortable you get with the timing of the shot, the easier it will be and the more touch you should be able to add to your tee shot.
