PowerPutt Hole Showcases are here, ready to turn your –10's into –15's and your –20's into record low scores! The next hole to be conquered is Freaky Tiki #12, one of the toughest par-3s in the game. To be frank, this might be THE most challenging par-3 in the game. While hitting a hole-in-one can be done pretty regularly, anything other than that can result in sever damage.
There is definitely a trick to this hole, one that will require a precision shot to master, but as you'll find, it can be repeated once you have it down. Before we move onto that; however, let's go over the layout of the hole.
The 12th is most distinguished by the large tiki statue, and triangle-shaped barrier placed directly in the center of the hole. The hole is also two-tiered, and anything hit beyond this statue will drop down to a lower level.
The cup is positioned almost exactly on the edge of the hill before the drop off. This of course leaves a lot of interesting shots if you aren't fortunate enough to get it in the cup in one. Beyond the hole there is a small flat area, which can be deemed to be a safety zone if you hit your second shot pass the cup.
In terms of strategy, there is one very distinct trick when playing the hole. In order to get to the cup in one, you have to use a bank shot off that middle triangle. Far from your typical shot to say the least.
In order to send your ball directly right; however, you'll need to hit the apex (for all you geometry fans) aka the very top of the triangle. Hitting the triangle too low will send you ball down the gap with a tough look at eagle. Missing the triangle altogether on the right will force an impossible birdie putt and could potentially be a scorecard killer.
With practice, you should be able to zone in on hitting the very top without missing left. For the ball to shoot right you almost need to hit it dead on.
At the very worst you'll be left with a manageable birdie putt. If you miss the HIO and are sent down below the second tier, make sure not to leave your second shot short. There's plenty of room behind the hole, and you'll want a flat putt if the second effort misses.
It will take time, and in order to master the shot, you'll probably have to fail a handful of times to get it down. After a few rounds, you should be hitting this shot on a regular basis and picking up important shots on your competition!
