PowerPutt Hole Showcases are here, ready to turn your –10's into –15's and your –20's into record low scores! The next hole to be conquered is Skull Island #8, a par 4 that is one of the tougher holes-in-one to hit in the game, but is certainly possible if you know where to go, and where not to go.
When positioned on the tee boxes you'll start facing straight ahead at the cannon in the distance. From here, you can also see a giant waterfall to your left. If you really wanted to play it safe, you could hit your ball straight ahead at/or near the cannon. In some cases however, this may not necessarily be the safest play.
It takes a very powerful tee shot to get and keep your ball moving once it approaches that cannon. Your ball then has to take a good "lucky" bounce left in order to give you a look at the hole. Even if you do have a shot, your eagle putt is going to be really long, and your chances of two-putting from this position are high. The biggest key: going this direction eliminates the possibilities of getting a hole-in-one.
The other way to play this hole will net you a much easier eagle and give you a shot at a hole-in-one - plus it's a lot more fun! Remember that waterfall? The waterfall from the tee box isn't just a dead end; it's actually quite the opposite. The pin is more or less directly behind the center of it! There are a few items, however, that you really need to recognize before giving this shot a go.
The first item worth noting is that there is a water hazard beyond the pin and slightly to the left. While most of the hole has a barrier on the side surrounding it, there is an open area beyond the cup that leads into a water hazard. And while the area is small, it is perfectly placed to really hurt a score if you are slightly left or slightly long.
To avoid this, make sure that if you're going to miss, miss right, and control your speed. It will take a couple of times through to have an idea of what shot you need to play, but it doesn't take much power to get to the hole. The other important part of this first shot is the small bump/hill placed perfectly in front of the pin. This won't send your ball flying into orbit, but it will impact your chances of getting a hole-in-one.
To play the hole properly you actually need to play the break of the hill with your blind tee shot. This is hard but it's not impossible. If the speed is right your ball will hit the hill and break left as it rolls over. This will take some practice, but find a spot close to the center of the waterfall and give it a shot. At the very least you'll be left with a flat eagle putt.
No one said it would be easy, but if you can master this you're sure to impress and pickup a few strokes on your buddies!
